Frequently Asked Questions

With decades of experience, we've compiled a list of common questions we receive at Selmi's Farm below. For any inquiries about our sweet corn, locations, or prices, please feel free to contact us.

  • Sweet corn at Selmi's Farm is typically in season from early to mid-July through mid August. During this time, you can enjoy our fresh, delicious sweet corn, harvested at the peak of ripeness. We ensure that every ear of corn is of the highest quality, providing you with the best taste and nutrition. Visit us during these months to savor our farm-fresh sweet corn and other seasonal produce.

  • Yes, to maintain its freshness and sweetness, corn on the cob should be refrigerated. Ideally, corn should be consumed as soon as possible after purchase, but if you need to store it, keep it in the refrigerator. Leaving corn at room temperature for too long can cause the natural sugars to convert to starch, affecting its flavor and texture. For best results, store corn in the husk in a plastic bag in the refrigerator and enjoy it within a few days.

  • To keep sweet corn fresh, follow these steps:

    1. Refrigerate Promptly: Place the corn in the refrigerator as soon as possible. Keeping it cold slows down the process of the natural sugars turning into starch, which helps maintain its sweetness and texture.

    2. Leave the Husks On: Store the corn in its husks to help retain moisture and protect the kernels.

    3. Use a Plastic Bag: Place the corn, still in its husks, in a plastic bag. This helps to prevent the corn from drying out.

    4. Avoid Freezing Raw Corn: If you need to store corn for a longer period, blanch the ears in boiling water for a few minutes, then cool them quickly in ice water before freezing. This process preserves the flavor and texture better than freezing raw corn.

For the best taste and quality, try to consume your sweet corn within a few days of purchase.

  • Yes, we do sell corn in bulk at Selmi's Farm. You can purchase 5 one dozen bags for $42.50 anytime at any of our farmers markets. Additionally, when quantities allow, we offer our Big Bags, which hold 5 to 6 dozen ears of corn, for $40.
