2024 in Bloom: Celebrating Firsts, Fun, and Community at Selmi's Family Farm

As the year draws to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on everything that made 2024 so memorable at Selmi’s Family Farm. It’s been a year of firsts, fun, and of course, delicious fruits and veggies. From planting our 4,000th tree to introducing new activities that brought even more smiles to our visitors, we’re grateful for every moment shared with our incredible community.

Here’s a look back at some of our biggest highlights!

A Sweet First for Our U-Pick Apple Orchard

This year marked a major milestone for our orchard—the launch of our first-ever U-Pick Apple experience! For the first time, visitors could stroll through our rows of young trees and pick their own apples straight from the branch. While our orchard is still young, with our 4,000th tree planted this summer, it’s growing strong. We’re committed to nurturing it season by season so that future generations can continue to enjoy this hands-on harvest tradition.

New Fall Festivities: Zing the Zipline and Grain Bin Hoopin’

This year, we introduced two new activities to our Fall Festivities lineup—Zing the Zipline and Grain Bin Hoopin’. Zing the Zipline gave thrill-seekers a high-flying adventure, while Grain Bin Hoopin’ tested everyone’s basketball skills in a farm-themed twist on a classic game. These additions were a hit, and we’re already brainstorming what’s next for next year’s lineup.

Donut Fundraiser Success: Over $30,000 Raised for Local Organizations

Who knew donuts could do so much good? Thanks to our community’s support, our Donut Fundraiser raised over $30,000 for local organizations. Our dedicated crew worked tirelessly to produce over 5,000 dozen donuts—that’s 60,000 individual donuts, in case you’re counting—to support causes that matter most to our neighbors. It’s a delicious way to give back, and we’re so proud to be part of it.

The Return of the Lumberjack Show and a New Carving Attraction

Our annual Lumberjack Show made its triumphant return this year, bringing the cheers and jaw-dropping stunts that our visitors have come to love. But the fun didn’t stop there. We welcomed Zoli’s Woodcarving from Wisconsin, where craftsmanship met artistry in every wood carving demonstration. Watching a plain log transform into a stunning work of art was a showstopper for guests of all ages.

50 Years Strong: Growing 10,000 Geraniums Every Spring

Selmi’s wouldn’t be Selmi’s without our beloved geraniums. For the last 50 years, we’ve grown over 10,000 of these vibrant flowers each spring. They’ve become a staple of our farm’s history and a symbol of our commitment to beauty, growth, and tradition. Seeing these blooms thrive year after year reminds us that some roots run deep.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for 2025?

As much as we love looking back, we’re always focused on the future. We’re committed to making every season at Selmi’s unforgettable, and that’s why we’re actively conducting research with our community to discover what’s next. Whether it’s more interactive attractions, expanded offerings, or brand-new experiences, we’re listening to your feedback. Stay tuned—2025 is shaping up to be our best year yet.

Thank You for a Year Full of Growth and Gratitude

None of this would be possible without you—our incredible community of visitors, supporters, and friends. Every apple picked, every donut devoured, and every memory made is a reminder of why we do what we do. From all of us at Selmi’s Family Farm, thank you for being part of our story. We’re excited to see you next year for even more adventures, growth, and good times. Until then, stay warm, stay safe, and we’ll see you in 2025!
