Art (Mary), Paul (Millie), Merino (Bernadine, aka Bunny) and Anna (Harry Wiker) continued truck farming, shipping into Chicago, first to Randolf St. Market, then South Water Market. The small market at the farm served them well through the years and 9 girls and 2 boys of the 3rd generation helped work the farm and the market. The second generation of Selmi's have all passed away, the last one living was Paul.
Art and Mary enjoyed the seasons of their lives on the farm.
After graduating college, Frank returned to the family farm with a Horticulture degree. He taught 13 years at the Whiteside Area Vocational Center and along with Connie, worked the family greenhouse, farm and began the small market trailer at the Northland Mall in 1979. For 25 years they operated the local pick-your-own strawberry patch.
Frank and Connie have 2 children, Matt and Katy. They both grew up fully immersed in the daily aspects of living on the farm.
Matt started working in the strawberry patch as early as he could remember. Selling quarts of strawberries, he learned the art of customer service. When he was 9 he began working with Connie daily at the sweet corn stand at the mall, and continued in-between baseball games until he was old enough to work in the fields.
After graduating from Illinois State University with a Business Administration degree, he entered the corporate world with Sherwinn-Williams. Matt served them in many aspects over 10 years, managing, opening a new store in Naperville and on to regional work.
Matt, his wife Melanie, Anthony and Kellen live just a stone's throw from the farm.
Katy also started working at a very young age along side her mom, until she was old enough to run the stand at the mall with her friends. She went on to the Univeristy of Illinois to study Horticulture in her father's footsteps. After graduating, Katy returned to Selmi's and began her own business in Floral arranging and event planning, Selmi's Bridal. She is married to Kurt Downs and they have 4 children, Tate, Andrew, MaryKay and Auggie. She is also a Country Financial agent and will soon be opening her new office for both businesses in a vintage building in downtown Rock Falls.
